A proximity switch sensor in a panel mount tachometer is an electronic device used to measure the speed of a rotating object, such as a motor or shaft. It consists of a panel-mounted sensor that is connected to a tachometer gauge to display the speed of the object in revolutions per minute. The Proximity Switch Sensor is a non-contact device that uses a magnetic field to detect the presence of a rotating object and then sends a signal to the tachometer to register the speed of the object.

Proximity Sensor employs the principle of generating digital signal output (LS-TTL compatible) by activating and deactivating a frequency oscillator. This digital signal output at the rate of 1 PPR proportional to speed is transmitted to the panel instrument over the interconnecting 3 core cable.
Sensor is either PNP or NPN Inductive type. Proximity switch/sensor consists of threaded 18 mm dia. x 70 mm. long brass probe with locknuts. It has to be mounted at a distance of 3.0 to 5.0 mm adjacent to a bolt/ Teeth/MS pulsor disc/wheel (which has to be concentrically Mounted on the rotating shaft of rotor/drive) of rotating shaft whose rpm is to be measured or tested continuously.
